The sun hung high in the blue sky, casting a warm glow over the sea of students ready for their graduation day, surrounded by their friends and families. Standing among my peers, I feel the nervousness and excitement seeping through my body. This has been a long anticipated day. The day all the late night studies, hard work, and struggle are being rewarded. Memories from this three year long journey racing through my mind, all the friends I bonded with, professors I built a good relationship with, and the progress I made, I have never been more excited about something else in my life.
The event began, and the students started filing towards the stage, the click-clack of heels and shoes blending harmoniously with the rustle of the robes, scraping of the chairs, and the chit chat between the parents and their laughter showcasing their pride in their kids. The nervous excitement of the uncertain future, the different paths that will be taken, and the relief of finally completing another challenging chapter can be felt through the air.
Upon reaching the stage, I could not help but look at the sea of people in the crowd. The proud smiles of parents, the loud cheers of siblings, and the supportive claps of friends all contributed to giving an overwhelmingly happy feeling to all the graduates. The shining rays of sunlight seemed to be reflecting the radiance of accomplishments on every graduate's face. The moment the dean announced the conferral of degrees, I felt a mix of emotions surge through me. from the joy of knowing I succeeded, to the hint of fear of what is to come.
The after-ceremony unfolded with strong feelings of happiness, joy, and accomplishment. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter from families and friends gathered around each other, the clinking from the dishes of the buffet, and the music traveling through the walls and buildings of the campus. Amidst all the celebrating, I stand surrounded by my family and friends, reminiscing the good memories and the bad experiences that we went through during this academic journey.
In the final hours of the day, the sun has dipped, casting a warm golden glow on the campus, shining its final light on the retreating forms of the graduates and families. I couldn’t help but reflect on the journey that led me to this moment. The day unfolded as a dream coming true, etched with unforgettable moments of shared struggles, rivers of tears, late-night study sessions, and the unwavering support of my professors and friends. As I joined the ranks of alumni, it finally registered that this is not the end, but just the beginning.
