A Cryptic Clue by Victoria Gilbert

A Cryptic Clue by Victoria Gilbert
is the first book of "A Hunter And Clewe Mystery". From the title you can tell that this is a mystery book, and I can assure you it is a great one.

The 60 year old Jane Hunter finds herself solving a murder mystery in her fairly new job after being forced into early retirement in her previous one. Her boss, 33 year old Cameron (Cam) Clewe is the number one suspect due to the nature of his relationship with the victim. How is Jane gonna solve this mystery? And how will she able to clear her boss's name? That is if he is innocent. Which brings us to our final question. Is Cam innocent?

The story takes place in Aircroft, an estate once owned by the  very well-known prominent Airley family. Cam inherited the property from his father after his passing, who had purchased it from the last living member of the Airleys. The estate with all its chambers and corners, made for the perfect setting for the story making it all the more intriguing and fascinating.

Despite her old age, Jane Hunter has a keen eye for details, and is a natural problem solver. From the start of the book, you can tell that Jane is an  incredible and smart character. Cam Clewe is a very smart man, however, his social skills .... Due to his lonely upbringing Cam never learned how to love properly, which is reflected in his various and unsuccessful relationships. Jane and Cam are both sharp characters, and together they create an interesting dynamic. With great attention to detail and a love for solving mysteries they were bound to reach the truth at the end.

The plot is tightly woven, and no matter how small an event is, it is still intriguing. With many twists and turns "A Cryptic Clue" makes sure to keep you invested in the story from beginning to end. The mystery of what is discovered by Jane in Cam's estate, and the investigation led by them both is compelling and keeps you on your toes wondering what will happen next.

Victoria Gilbert did an amazing work writing A Cryptic Clue. It is one of the few books that hooked me from start to finish, and I finished it in one setting. I actually berated myself for not reading it earlier. Victoria's writing is clear and descriptive throughout the book making it more enjoyable for you to imagine the scenes in your mind as if you are watching a movie.

"A Cryptic Clue" is a classified as a cozy mystery. It is an enjoyable murder mystery, with interesting, well-developed characters working together to solve this mystery that could land the eccentric Cam Clewe in jail. With all evidence pointing towards him how can he prove his innocence? and is he truly innocent? It was not easy to figure out who the murderer was, but once it was revealed it all made sense?

Do you want to know who it was? I recommend you read Victoria Gilbert's "A Cryptic Clue" and dive into the sea of mystery, investigation, and crime.
